Baffin Island, Arctic Canada

Lavas that erupted when Canada and Greenland rifted apart are exposed on the northeastern shore of Baffin Island. These lavas have anomalously light helium and hold clues about the deep Earth (see my research page for details). I traveled there in the summer of 2018 with two Caltech scientists to collect these precious rocks. Polar bears, icebergs, and hair-raising helicopter rides made for an exciting trip!
